Morley Hayes 2014

The Centenary  & McNally Shields 9th June 2014

Another well supported day for Year 12 of this event .. only 1 less than last year. The competition was as usual Stableford on full handicaps and the shields awarded to the winning pair. Pairs were made up of the biggest and smallest handicaps.
The winners were George Coulson (H'cap 12) 31 points & Stuart Musgrave (H'cap 28) 24 points for a total of 55. They are pictured with  George as the holder of the McNally Shield  and Stuart the Centenary Shields.  The nearest challengers were on 48 points. Indidvidual scores are shown with names and pictures below.

Opposite are Chris Coldwell (23) winner of nearest the pin in 3 on the 18th (The only other player to make the green in 3 was Alex Bowen) Paul Houghton (22) and Barry Young (14) who was longest drive on 13th. Both Chris and Barry were awarded wine and beer prizes.

We started as 5 x  3 balls slightly belatedly due to RAIN!!! 10.15 and away and all went well until the 1st group had played two of their drives at the 10th, when sirens from the Club House indicated thunder and lightening. There was a mass exodus from the course. All waited patiently for 1/2 an hour or so wintnessing "Weather"!!! and all continued except Jim Algar (4) leaving above  Peter Passmore (17)  and Simon Blackmore  (14) to continue through an initial shower and then to enjoy spendid sunshine for the back 9 holes.

They were followed by Stuart (28) , Drew Donaldson (18) and Terry Bell (22). Hard on their heels came last year's McNally Shield winner Mike Nicolass (24), Alex Bowen (18) (Alex qualified for a Wooden Spoon as his partner was Jim Algar, who also received one.)  and Geoff Beecroft (24).

As the final 18th Green photo  shows the sun was with us to the end as the Buggy Boys John Barber (22) and Lew Easter (24) posed with cap holding George Coulson (31) on the 18th Green.

The general view was that despite the ups & downs  of the weather the course had stood up well and all had enjoyed the day. Appreciation for the RMS support for the green fees and travel from far and wide was also expressed.  The possibilities of a 13th year at Morley Hayes  in 2015 also came across as the general wish of all. Let's see?
